Marvel has released the first trailer for its new animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” which was previously titled “Spider-Man: Freshman Year.”
The show follows a parallel timeline where Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, was mentored by Norman Osborn, the alter-ego of his archenemy Green Goblin, instead of Tony Stark like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cast members include Hudson Thames as the titular web-slinger, Colman Domingo as Osborn, Kari Wahlgren as Aunt May and Hugh Dancy as Doctor Octopus. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofiro will reprise their roles from the “Daredevil” Netflix series, and Paul F. Tompkins will take on the role of classic Marvel Comics villain The Wizard.
Spider-Man has been a major earner for Marvel ever since Tom Holland took over the part in 2016 with the release of “Captain America: Civil War.” Holland has played the web-slinging hero five times since. His latest film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” released in 2021, would go on to become the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time.
Before Spider-Man joined the MCU, the franchise was first helmed by Sam Raimi for Sony Pictures. The pairing would produce three movies in 2002, 2004 and 2007 starring Toby Maguire. Sony would then reboot the series in 2012 with Andrew Garfield, and all three Spideys had a memorable reunion in “No Way Home.”
Jeff Trammell is head writer and Mel Zwyer is the supervising director. Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt and Trammell serve as executive producers.
“Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is set to premiere Jan. 29. Watch the trailer below.
