Woman ruins her boyfriend’s $110K supercar with Christmas lights

Remember when people first started putting fake reindeer noses, antlers, and wreathes on their cars? Well, trends evolve. More recently, vehicle owners have taken to covering their cars with Christmas lights to celebrate the season. Unfortunately for one Audi R8 owner, his girlfriend used individual strands of tape to affix hundreds of lights to his supercar.

A TikTok user covered her boyfriend’s Audi R8 supercar with Christmas lights and he seemed less than pleased

In a TikTok post, Ella Palen endeavors to surprise her boyfriend with the move. As he naps, Palen wallpapers the car with tape and Christmas lights. It must have been quite some nap, as covering every bit of the Audi R8 would take quite some time. Still, Palen thought the look of surprise and gratitude on her boyfriend’s face would make the labor of love worth it. At least, that’s what she thought.

“Tada!” That’s what Palen exclaimed as she revealed her handiwork. “Whoa. But you’re not– you can’t put tape on a car, baby,” the Audi R8 owner responded. With an average sales price of around $110,000, the V10-powered supercar is hardly a Christmas tree. TikTok users echoed the supercar owner’s concerns over the tape and lights.

“The tape kills me but it looks so cool,” one commenter responded. “Please say that those are plastic lights and not glass,” another viewer ached. Of course, there was plenty of support for the twinkling lights. “That’s badass,” another viewer with a Confederate Flag profile picture responded.

Now, it should be mentioned that Palen’s lighting job sat on a vinyl wrap. With wrapping, installers use tough vinyl sheeting, precision adjustments, and heat to change the appearance of their cars. It’s a common alternative to high-dollar paint jobs.

However, a wrap also protects the paint beneath from UV rays and damage from, say, hundreds of pieces of tape and Christmas lights. Still, it’s not the best place for your festive lights. Maybe they’ll stick to a set of window antlers next year.
