“Wednesday” Season 1 established Jenna Ortega and Tim Burton as a fresh creative duo, but the overwhelming box office success of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” has proven that their success was far from a fluke. The film has only raised expectations for Season 2 of the “Addams Family”-inspired Netflix series, and a new teaser for the season has given fans their first look at the latest batch of episodes.
Netflix has now revealed that Season 2 of “Wednesday” will be broken into two parts. Part 1 returns on August 6, 2025, and Part 2 returns on September 3.
The first teaser opens with a sequence of Wednesday going through airport security and getting stopped and frisked by a TSA agent. She unveils an embarrassing number of deadly weapons and torture devices on her person, but her real cardinal sin is Thing bringing along a small tube of sunscreen. It also shows Wednesday returning to Nevermore — the first school she’s ever come back to a second time — reuniting with her perky roomie Enid, and staring down a horrific looking demon.
“You don’t need to worry about me mother,” Wednesday says in the trailer. “I do my best work in the dark.”
Burton is onboard to direct four episodes of the new season, which Ortega has previously teased will feel even more cinematic than its predecessor.
“I’ve received some scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Ortega said in a January 2024 interview with E! News. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her. “There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”
In addition to Ortega returning as Wednesday Addams alongside stars Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Victor Dorobantu, Gwendoline Christie, Christina Ricci, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, the new season will feature plenty of new faces. Steve Buscemi has joined the cast as a series regular, with the likes of Lady Gaga, Thandiwe Newton, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor, and Joonas Suotamo coming on board as guest stars.
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, “Wednesday” was an instant hit when it premiered on Netflix in 2022, quickly becoming one of the top 10 original series in the streamer’s history within two weeks. It’s currently the most-watched single season of a English-language show on Netflix ever, behind only the first season of “Squid Game.” With Ortega’s star only continuing to rise since then, there’s no telling how big Season 2 could be.
