The Brazil attacker is on the verge of signing an extension with Los Blancos – but those plans could be put in jeopardy
Vinicius Jr could be slapped with a two-year ban from football by FIFA for allegedly breaking rules around multi-club ownership.
According to Spanish sports daily Marca, the Real Madrid superstar is now under investigation.
The 24-year-old is registered as the owner of several professional football clubs, which may violate international football rules.
Since joining the Spanish giants from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2018, the winger has won an incredible 14 trophies, including twice lifting the Champions League and three La Liga titles.
The Brazilian attacker has been in scintillating form this season too, scoring 21 goals and delivering 15 assists in 47 matches across all competitions.
As a result he has slapped down mega-money proposals from Saudi Arabia to pen a Real Madrid extension until 2030.
However, off the pitch, the bombshell probe, also reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, risks forcing Real Madrid to plan for life without Vinicius Jr.
It started when Tiberis Holding do Brasil, a Brazilian company, filed a formal complaint with FIFA’s Ethics Committee on April 7.
They decided to raise this complaint after the Brazilian side Athletic Club of SĂŁo JoĂŁo del Rei, a club that Tiberis held a 16.5 per cent stake in, was promoted to Serie B.
Following the promotion, Tiveris owner Willy Francese planned to exercise his right of first refusal to buy the majority of Athletic Club.
However, the shares were actually sold directly to ALL, the company linked to Vinicius, leading to the commercial court of Sao Paulo suspending the deal to investigate.
But while investigations are underway, ALL took operational control of the club, infuriating Tiberis.
According to Tiberis, this breaches Article 20 of the FIFA Code of Ethics and Article 22 of the Spanish Federation’s Code of Sports Justice, which both prohibit active footballers from owning, directly or indirectly, professional football clubs.
“Vinicius Junior is registered as the owner of several professional soccer clubs, which may violate international soccer rules,” read Marca.
In addition to this, Vinicius is also linked to Portuguese side Alverca, raising further concerns about cross-border player transfers and competitive integrity.
One such instance saw a player—Rafael Conceicao—move on loan from Sao Joao del Rei to Alverca, a transaction that reportedly intensified FIFA’s interest in the case.
“The maximum penalty for such a violation is a two-year suspension,” Marca added.
While a ban is the most severe option on the table, other penalties—such as heavy financial fines or a forced sale of ownership stakes—are also being considered.
“This FIFA investigation and its outcome are of great interest not only to the player but also to the entire soccer world,” the report adds. “Vinicius’ disqualification could seriously affect Real Madrid’s plans for the current and future seasons”.
Currently, FIFA has not issued an official ruling, but they are reviewing the complaint with the Ethics Committee to decide the outcome.
Record Sport has reached out to Vinicius Jr’s representatives and FIFA for comment.
