Sorry, the Ford F-150 isn’t the truck with the best value retention. It actually doesn’t even crack the top 10.
Just because the Ford F-150 is the best-selling truck doesn’t mean it holds more value than its rivals. In fact, other Ford trucks hold more value than the full-size option. Plus, it’s not even in the list of the top 10 trucks that hold their value the best.
Does the Ford F-150 hold the most value?
No, the Ford F-150 isn’t the truck with the best resale value. According to Top Speed, the truck that holds the best value over five years of ownership is the Toyota Tacoma.
The Tacoma is expected to retain 73.1% of its resale value after five years of ownership. It’s also the only mid-size truck that outsells the full-size truck in the lineup.
It leads the list of the top 10 trucks with the best value retention. The larger Toyota Tundra came in 10th place with an expected value retention of 65.1%.
On an interesting note, the Tundra is the only full-size truck that made the top 10. So, the F-150 isn’t alone. The Chevy Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, Nissan Titan, and GMC Sierra 1500 also failed to make the list.
Next, two other Ford trucks managed to outrank the F-150, which didn’t make it into the top 10. The Ford Maverick landed in eighth place with an expected value retention of 65.6%. Then the Ford Ranger came in third place with an expected value retention of 69.9%.
An average Ford F-150 is expected to depreciate by about 51% around five years of ownership. This still makes it a solid investment.
The F-150 might not hold as much value as other trucks because of its popularity. It has been the best-selling truck for decades, meaning it has more used models on the market. Basically, it can be easier to get a used F-150 than other models.
