Disney‘s upcoming legacy sequel “TRON: Ares” has a brand new trailer that dropped over the weekend featuring some footage of the film with one of the Program characters out in the real world and being pursued by police while on a light-cycle, along with flashes of other VFX-heavy sequences in the film.
“TRON” is set in a universe where digital people inhabit a space where games to the death are commonplace. These digital people represent not only programs but, in the case of “Users” like Kevin and Sam Flynn (father and son), are transported there by being shrunk into this digital realm and essentially becoming “Programs” too (“Black Mirror” having used this concept over multiple seasons).

“Ares” will attempt something that was briefly teased at the end of the second film, by having Programs exploring the world of Users, and the potential danger of technologies colliding.
The latest installment in the “TRON” franchise, directed by Joachim Rønning (“Young Woman & The Sea”) boasts an impressive cast that consists of Jared Leto (“Blade Runner 2049”), Greta Lee (“Past Lives”), Evan Peters (“WandaVision”), Hasan Minhaj (“Babes,” “No Hard Feelings”), Jodie Turner-Smith (“Star Wars: The Acolyte”), Arturo Castro (“The Menu,” “Road House”), Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”), Gillian Anderson (“The Crown”), and Jeff Bridges (“The Old Man”) is back as Kevin Flynn.
Another hook Disney has attached to the film is that Oscar-winning composer Trent Reznor‘s band Nine Nich Nails will be providing music for the film and we assumed contributed to the aforementioned trailer. Previously, music fans went nuts when Parisian electronic duo Daft Punk was selected to craft an original score for Joseph Kosinksi‘s “TRON: Legacy,” and hiring another high-profile group was a pleasant surprise.
An official synopsis for the film via Disney:
“TRON: Ares” follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares (Leto), who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.
