Driftwood Ranch Resort Opening in the Catskills

  • Driftwood Ranch Resort opened on April 1 in Sullivan County in the Catskills, 90 minutes from New York City.
  • The resort is a working cattle and horse ranch that features four spacious suites with sitting areas, dining spaces, and western-inspired decor.
  • Ranch guests can take roping lessons, feed the longhorns, or explore the private hiking trails.

Experiencing the West’s quiet solitude and wild, welcoming way has historically involved a visit to western states like Montana or Wyoming—but one New York ranch will change that.

Driftwood Ranch Resort, boasting over 200 scenic acres, opens this month in Sullivan County in the Catskills. The resort, located in White Lake, just 90 minutes from New York City, is a real working horse and cattle ranch, designed and owned by Steve Dubrovsky, a three-time Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association circuit champion and the architect for the neighboring Chatwal Lodge.

“Driftwood Ranch is truly a blend of the best of two worlds. Drawing on my background in professional rodeo and my passion for designing high-end rustic lodges, we’ve created an authentic working horse and cattle ranch that showcases the beauty and ruggedness of the West. Our luxurious suites encapsulate this spirit perfectly, offering all the comforts of refined living while staying true to the authenticity of ranch life,” said Dubrovsky in an email interview with Travel + Leisure.

There are just four distinct suites available to rent, featuring hand-hewn posts and beams, New Zealand wool rugs, and western-inspired textiles. Every suite has a sitting area, dining space, and private office. However, each space also provides unique touches. The Longhorn Suite, for example, looks out over the fields of Texas Longhorns and has a king-size bed made from white birch with branches coming out from behind the headboard, while the Museum Suite features decor from the Rochester Museum of Science and Nature. The Western Barn Suite has a stone fireplace and is filled with handcrafted furnishings made from barn stall boards. And guests of the two-story Cattle Drive Suite enjoy cattle-inspired motifs throughout the space as well as a full kitchen.

Activities include hiking the ranch’s private trails, fishing, kayaking, and horseback riding. And those who want to get an authentic taste of ranch life can also feed the longhorns, watch horses get trained by the pros, or take a roping lesson. Driftwood Ranch has an excellent horseriding program with lessons and experiences for riders of all levels.

“Our riding program is led by Mark and Mona Kreutziger, dear friends and seasoned professionals in the horse world. Mark is an exceptional horse trainer with accolades like training Quarter Horse Race Stake winners and even polo horses for Polo Hall of Famer Bart Evans. Mona, meanwhile, has an incredible history, from barrel racing as a child to breaking ground as one of the first women jockeys. Together, they bring unmatched expertise and passion to the program,” Dubrovsky said.

Nightly rates at Driftwood Ranch Resort start at $1,000, including breakfast.
