2 teens use a stolen SUV to ram New Jersey police cars

Two teens in a stolen SUV started ramming police cars in an attempt to get away. One officer was injured.

Two teenagers are in serious trouble after not only stealing an SUV but using it as a weapon to harm New Jersey police officers. They hit multiple police cars with the stolen SUV to try and get away. 

Teens use a stolen SUV as a weapon against New Jersey police cars

Police officers in Union, New Jersey were patrolling in the 5 Point area when they spotted a stolen SUV on Galloping Hill Road. 

The stolen vehicle was a 2021 Acura RDX that was taken during an overnight burglary in Orange the night before. 

An officer in an unmarked police car followed the SUV until other police cars were able to surround the stolen vehicles. 

But the driver of the SUV didn’t want to get caught. He uses the vehicle to repeatedly hit the police cars in an attempt to get away.

One officer shared that the goal was to block the car in and prevent a dangerous pursuit, but the driver of the stolen vehicle tried to force his way out of the contaminants and repeatedly rammed our cars. 

The thieves failed to escape and were forced out of the SUV. However, one officer was injured as his car was rammed and transported to a hospital.

According to Patch, a 16-year-old from Newark was driving the car, and a 19-year-old was a passenger. They were riding with 21-year-old Jeremiah Byrd. 

Each of them were charged with possessing a stolen vehicle. The youngest teen was also charged with eluding the police, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon (the SUV).

The car was filled with key fobs and credit cards that belong to other people. Officers believe that they were on a crime spree and were searching for their next victim. Also, detectives are working to determine who the stolen key fobs belong to.
