Donald Trump Crashes Jesus' Easter With Tariffs in Cold Open

The price of eggs is surely going up this Easter due to Donald Trump’s tariffs — and James Austin Johnson’s president crashed the holiday in the cold open of “Saturday Night Live.”

Mikey Day played Jesus Christ in the opening of Saturday’s new episode, hosted by Jon Hamm with musical guest Lizzo. Just as Jesus was complaining about the increase in merchants’ prices in ancient times, Johnson’s Trump steals the scene and delivers a hilarious monologue about the tariffs and plummeting stock market.

“Remind you of anyone? I also got rid of money last week but instead of one temple, I did a whole country. Maybe even the globe,” Johnson’s Trump said. “The money’s gone. Hi, it’s me, your favorite president, Donald Jesus Trump, comparing myself to the son of God once again. Many people are even calling me the Messiah for the mess I made out of the economy.”

Like last weekend, Trump’s tariffs were front and center in this episode of “SNL,” and the cast referenced Trump’s 180-degree turn on some of the tariff increases that had the stock market rebound a bit earlier this week.

“All because of my beautiful tariffs. They’re so beautiful. They were working so well that I had to stop them,” Johnson’s Trump joked. “It’s true. The stock market did a Jesus. It died, then on the third day, it was risen. And then on the fourth day, it died again. Possibly, never to return, just like Jesus.”

Like many people this last week, Trump also advised against checking your 401(k): “Jesus Christ is a name we’ve been saying a lot lately. We look at our 401(k) and say ‘Jesus Christ, where did it all go?’ I don’t know, but we’re going to fix that. Or not, we’ll see, either way it should be interesting.”
