A criminal stole a North Carolina family’s SUV full of Christmas gifts, tools, and valuables.

What a humbug. Even the Grinch would cringe at this one. A North Carolina family is heartbroken after a criminal stole their SUV. Worse yet, the GMC Yukon was brimming with the family’s Christmas gifts.

Taking a page from Dr. Seuss’ beloved character, the ‘Grinch’, a criminal stole a family’s GMC Yukon full of Christmas presents

Tabitha Jones parked her 2005 GMC Yukon at a construction site in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Jones says her boyfriend, who works at the site, left the Yukon unattended for just 10 minutes. Tragically, that was more than enough time for a criminal to hop into the gold SUV and drive away in broad daylight.

Worse yet, many of Tabitha’s Christmas gifts and her boyfriend’s tools were in the SUV, per WXII 12. “It had a lot of presents in there, and money, and his tools,” Tabitha Jones said of the crime. “The tools he uses to work with. We’re going to have to buy all that stuff again. And right here at Christmastime? That’s the worst.”

Jones told interviewers that the GMC Yukon was a gift from her parents. With a headlight out and a broken window, it wasn’t in spectacular condition. She was confused as to why anyone would want to steal it. However, with gifts and tools on board, the old Yukon appealed to a brazen thief in daylight.

Unfortunately, the SUV was running while Jones’ boyfriend unloaded gear, supplies, and tools at the site. An unlocked, running vehicle is an easy target for thieves, even a holiday Grinch. And the vehicle’s condition has little to do with the prerogatives of some criminals. After all, many car thieves steal vehicles to use in follow-on crimes.

Remember to shut off and lock your vehicle when it’s not in use. Many stolen cars in the United States are unlocked at the time of the theft.
