• Technical details about the L946 remain murky, but it will allegedly be a PHEV.
  • The SUV has some familiar Lynk & Co design traits, like the sharp LED daytime running lights.
  • Although nothing’s official yet, it is expected to hit the market sometime next year.

Lynk & Co has released the first official photos of its new L946 SUV, and while it won’t be ready to launch until next year, it promises to take the Chinese brand into a segment of the market it hasn’t previously explored.

The large SUV, currently known as the L946, is immediately recognizable as a Lynk & Co model thanks to the bold LED daytime running lights that look like the talons of a hawk. The main headlamps are then positioned slightly lower on the fascia. There does not appear to be a traditional front grille, although there is a small grille area towards the base of the bumper.

When viewed from the side, the L946 somewhat resembles a Range Rover Sport, but looks slightly lower and longer. There are door handles that sit flush with the bodywork and a LiDAR sensor on the roof. The black and silver wheels sit over a set of orange brake calipers.

Camouflage adorns all of the Lynk & Co’s bodywork, but we can see part of the LED taillights that extend down the rear quarter panels. Unfortunately, the brand has not yet released any interior photos of the SUV, nor has it confirmed powertrain details.

CarNewsChina expects the L946 will be sold as a plug-in hybrid, like most of Lynk & Co’s other models. It’s possible it will borrow its plug-in hybrid from the Lynk & Co 07 EM-P. That sleek fastback sedan has a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder working alongside an electric motor, resulting in a combined 375 hp.

In October, Lynk & Co presented its first EV for the European market, dubbed the 02. It is a rear-wheel drive crossover coupe with a 66 kWh battery pack and a 268 hp electric motor that starts under €36,000 in most key markets.
