Liverpool are close to tying up several blockbuster new deals but Darwin Nunez has been urged to quit Anfield as Arne Slot is accused of treating him harshly
Liverpool have been left to digest just their second Premier League defeat of the season. The Reds were beaten 3-2 at Fulham – which was their first away loss.
Since then they have received several pieces of good news as they look to wrap up the top flight title sooner rather than later. Virgil van Dijk came out and said he was in the midst of positive talks with the Reds about penning a new deal prior to his contract expiring this summer.
Mohamed Salah also looks like he will pen a new deal and extend his stay with the Egyptian reportedly about to sign a two-year deal and reject interest from Saudi Arabia. It means that two of their potential free exits could now remain at Anfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to Real Madrid and there’s been no noise about him staying with his boyhood clubs. Here’s the latest news coming out of Liverpool.
Nunez urged to quit Reds
Darwin Nunez has been told to consider leaving Liverpool this summer as former Premier League star Gus Poyet believes the striker is “treated differently” to some of his team-mates. Nunez has been heavily linked with a potential summer move and has made just eight Premier League starts so far this season – which has resulted in just seven goals.

“I think he needs to make a decision this summer on whether he’s happy with his role at Liverpool or he wants something different,” Poyet told bettingexpert.com.
“He’s the number one striker for the national team and he’s the kind of player you don’t want to play against. But with Liverpool he’s in and out and he gets treated differently to other Liverpool players. [Cody] Gakpo can go 10-15 games with no goal and it’s not a problem. Nunez it’s always a problem.”
Mac Allister not enjoying rest
Alexis Mac Allister concedes Liverpool are not enjoying having a week to prepare for their clash with West Ham as it means they have nothing to play for. Whilst Arsenal and Aston Villa were playing in European contests, the Reds were sat with their feet up.
Liverpool’s hopes ended in the last 16 as PSG beat them on penalties at Anfield. It has meant that their players are subjected to fewer games, but their Argentine would rather have a hectic schedule if it meant they were still in the hunt for more trophies.
He said: “It does feel weird, to be honest. We didn’t want to be in this position, to be completely honest, because that means you’re not playing Champions League or another cup. But it is what it is. I think this week, as I said, will help to train the things that we’ve done wrong, especially in the last game, and get prepared for the next one.”
Reds confirm pre-season fixture
Liverpool have announced that they will play Yokohama F. Marinos in the second game of their pre-season tour in Asia this summer. The contest against the J1 League club will take place at Nissan Stadium in Yokohama on July 30 with the Merseyside outfit heading to Japan for a pre-season tour for the first time.
Before that clash Slot’s side will take on Italian giants AC Milan in the first football fixture to be played at the newly opened Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong. Liverpool last headed to the region by playing in Singapore in 2023 and prior to that travelled to Hong Kong for pre-season in 2017.
