Jennifer Lopez to Star in Robert Zemeckis Film 'The Last Mrs. Parrish'

Jennifer Lopez is again teaming with Netflix, this time for an auteur’s latest project. Lopez is set to star in an adaptation of the book “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” directed by Robert Zemeckis and set up at Netflix, IndieWire has confirmed.

The 2017 bestseller “The Last Mrs. Parrish” sold over a million copies and was a Reese Witherspoon book club pick. A “Talented Mr. Ripley”-esque thriller, the book follows a woman and con artist named Amber who schemes to befriend and eventually undermine a socialite named Daphne and her family, including seducing her husband, all while trying to keep the skeletons of her past under wraps.

The project is currently in development with a script from Andrea Berloff (“Straight Outta Compton,” “The Mother”) and John Gatins (Zemeckis’ “Flight,” as well as “Kong: Skull Island”). No additional casting was announced.

Netflix picked up the rights to “The Last Mrs. Parrish” way back in 2021 and at the time had set Lisa Rubin, creator of the streamer’s 2017 series “Gypsy,” to write the script.

Lopez is also producing the film via her Nuyorican Productions banner, which has a creative partnership with Netflix and has produced Lopez-starring films like “The Mother” and “Atlas.” Lopez and her producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and longtime manager Benny Medina, who will also produce “Mrs. Parrish,” are overseeing a slate of films and TV series, with an emphasis on projects that support diverse female actors, writers, and filmmakers.

“Mrs. Parrish” also falls under another deal with producer Liza Chasin for her 3dot Productions, which currently has “The Life List” starring Sofia Carson sitting at #1 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Films list for English-language titles. Molly Sims is also producing for Something Happy Productions. Executive producers on the project are Margaret Chernin for 3dot Productions, Lynne Constantine and Valerie Constantine, Jack Rapke, and Derek Hogue.

Lopez most recently starred in “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which premiered at Sundance and will be released by Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate later this year. The film is a musical adaptation of the stage production based on the original book, which itself was first adapted as a narrative feature in the ’80s that won William Hurt an Oscar. Last year, she starred in the sports drama “Unstoppable.”

Zemeckis’ most recent film was 2024’s “Here” with Tom Hanks and Robin Wright.

Deadline first reported the news.
