Gary Lineker will bring his Match of the Day career to an end following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Premier League campaign after deciding to step down from his presenting duties. The 63-year-old has anchored the BBC’s flagship football show for a quarter of a century.
There are a host of candidates in the frame to replace him, with Mark Chapman widely tipped to step up after building up a huge fanbase on Match of the Day 2.
The reliable Gabby Logan could provide the BBC with a safe pair of hands, while Alex Scott could move across from Football Focus. And Jason Mohammad is also in the mix if BBC chiefs choose to promote him from their Saturday afternoon Final Score programme.
