A popular food truck was stolen, and it was recovered a few days later thanks to the power of social media.
LeAnne and Mary Scardina, spouses and co-owners of the popular Phoenix food truck Marylee Kitchens suffered a great loss when their truck was stolen in late December.
LeeAnne is a professional chef, so it made sense to open a food truck to offer her talents and honor her late father. The truck, which has been a hit in the Valley city since 2020, was famous for its pork roll sandwich.
“I thought we lost it all,” LeeAnn told 12 News. “It was never coming back. I thought it was going to be in another state., I thought it was going to be unrecoverable.”
Mary quickly took to Facebook to ask her community to keep a lookout for the truck. Not too long after it was posted and reposted several times, a man spotted the truck in Glendale in front of a stranger’s house.
“We made a post, and Lee’s brother made a post, and between that and sharing that post, our food truck community, and between all of us, our posts were shared over 1,000 times that afternoon,” Mary continued.
Not all heroes wear capes… Or want to be recognized
When it was recovered, there was white paint over the business’s wrap and damage to the inside of the truck.
“He preferred to remain nameless,” LeeAnne said. “But we are very grateful for him.”
Police found and took a 42 -year-old man into custody, but has been released pending charges of vehicle theft. The duo is just excited about what 2025 has to bring now that their truck is home.
“Now we can get back on track,” said LeeAnne. “It’s really because of the community that surrounds us, our friends, our family, people who’ve tried our food.”
