More than 10 years after he emptied his bank account for a new life in Hong Kong, Habib Bah has targeted a future where he represents the city that “gave me the opportunity to express myself”.
Bah is currently with Tai Po, after the Hong Kong Premier League leaders were impressed by the midfielder’s succession of dynamic early-season performances for Football Club.
The 29-year-old called the January move an opportunity to grow as “a player and as man”, although he has been doing that since he left his native Guinea at the age of 18.
Bah lost both of his parents in 2007, when he was 11, before living with an aunt and uncle.
“It was a very tough life as a child,” Bah said. “But there were so many nice people outside the family who loved me because of my football. I spent most of my childhood outside the house. I was a street boy.”
A family issue ultimately led to Bah leaving his home country for Malaysia, with the aid of a friend.
