Dubai is the fastest growing holiday destination amongst over-60s

According to Destination2, Dubai is now a top destination for travelers over 60, seeing a 25% increase in bookings from this demographic, drawn by its accessibility, luxury, and diverse activities.

Whether it’s celebrating a newly empty nest, ticking off the bucket-list or planning a family getaway with the grandkids, holidaymakers over 60 are looking for fresh holiday experiences. Dubai is not just for the party-goers and the glitterati – the United Arab Emirates hotspot is fast becoming the top choice for travellers over 60, as pensioners ditch the European sun for the Dubai dream. In fact, according to affordable luxury travel specialist Destination2, Dubai has seen a 25% surge in bookings from over 60 holidaymakers this year, making it the fastest-growing destination for this age group*.

Destination2’s travel expert, Betty Bouchier Hobin, explains why Dubai is capturing the hearts of mature travellers, “Dubai is proving an increasingly popular holiday destination for pensioners who are attracted by its guaranteed year-round sunshine and its accessibility. Easily affordable direct flights from many regional airports mean more and more over-60s are choosing it as a holiday option over traditional destinations like the Spanish Costas. With luxury hotels offering exceptional hospitality and well-connected public transport, the city caters perfectly to those who value convenience or those who can’t walk long distances.

“Dubai’s diverse activities also are suitable for all, whether it’s relaxing at a private beach resort, playing on a world-class golf course or ticking more adventurous activities such as a desert safari – there’s something for every age.”

The Maldives, South Asia

“The Maldives is another destination gaining popularity. As the over-60s find themselves with the freedom and the time to tick off those bucket-list destinations, the crystal-clear waters of the Maldives are a no-brainer for the over-60’s age group. The Maldives is perfect for relaxing and enjoying quality time with loved ones or simply unwinding on your own. The resorts are designed for privacy and are known for their excellent service, with many offering personalised assistance for older guests. This includes convenient water taxis and special activities like sunset cruises.”

Barbados, Caribbean

“For those looking for a more lively scene, Barbados can offer the best of both worlds for over-60s. Although the tropical island is still laid-back, its authentic setting offers a chance for them to really delve into the culture. Known for its friendly locals and vibrant expat community, Barbados also features a variety of accommodations suitable for different budgets, from high-end resorts to smaller boutique hotels. Holidaymakers have access to bustling local festivals and delicious food to try – it has a really welcoming atmosphere that appeals to many.”

*Data sourced from Destination2’s demographic research shows the largest year-on-year booking increase to Dubai is among customers over 60, at 25.3%.
