Summer—historically, it’s one of the most popular times to travel around the globe. And what’s not to love about a little getaway to a place you’ve never been before? And while there are hundreds of countries across the globe that travelers could visit, some are grabbing the spotlight more than others this year.

Based on Google Flights’ 2025 Summer Travel Trends report, the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao is the top trending international destination for the upcoming travel season. The data was based on Google Flights searches for trips departing from U.S. airports between June 1 and Aug. 31.

Curaçao is known for its charming Europe-meets-Caribbean vibes, where vibrant, colorful homes are peppered among more than 35 white-sand beaches. Average temperatures hover in the mid-80s, with low humidity thanks to trade winds from the east. Curaçao also experiences relatively few hurricanes thanks to its unique geographic position—it’s about 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela on the edge of the hurricane zone.

The 171-mile-square-mile country is also known for its rich culture, a blend of European, African, Latin American, and Indian influences. The island has three official languages: Papiamentu (a Creole language primarily based on Spanish and Portuguese), Dutch, and English.

Curaçao’s unique culture also lends itself to a vibrant food scene. If you visit, make sure to stop by a snack bar (aka a snèk), a barbecue joint, or grab a sandwich from a truki pan.

You can explore Curaçao’s intriguing past by visiting historical points of interest across the island, including its many Dutch forts; preserved plantation homes; or the Historic Area of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If brushing up on history isn’t exactly your idea of a thrilling vacation, there’s plenty to do and see in Curaçao as well. There’s a variety of outdoor adventures to be had on the island, including snorkeling and scuba diving in its famously clear waters. The island breezes also make for ideal conditions for windsurfing, kite surfing, and flyboarding.
