Conrad Punta De Mita Hotel Review

Conrad Punta De Mita

  • The resort offers access to a beach and three pools, including an adults-only pool with a swim-up bar.
  • One of the most popular wellness experiences is the temescal ceremony, taking place in a dome-shaped structure.
  • The culinary offerings include a beach barbecue where local fishermen provide their freshest catch of the day grilled over mesquite wood on the beach.
  • The beachfront suites boast over 1,400 square feet and feature large patios with private plunge pools.

When I travel to a new destination, I love immersing myself in the local culture and customs. However, connecting with a destination on a deeper level can be challenging when you’re also looking to enjoy a resort vacation without leaving your hotel. This is where Conrad Punta de Mita excels—it is one of the few resorts I’ve visited where cultural elements are woven throughout almost all aspects of the on-site guest experience.

The hotel is situated on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit, home to multiple Indigenous groups, including the Huicholes, who are direct descendants of the Aztecs and whose culture places a great emphasis on nature and spirituality. Conrad Punta De Mita has ensured that its guests can enjoy a modern and luxurious escape while also getting a taste of the traditions of the native Huichol people. From the more obvious, like the temascal ceremony led by a local Indigenous shaman, to the more subtle, like the blue and yellow sun pattern on the Tukipa ballroom floor, inspired by the sun god Tau, hints of Indigenous culture are everywhere.

Guests can partake in the four-door purification ritual in the Temazcal dome.

The entire 55,000-square-foot resort is its own little slice of paradise. There’s so much to do for every type of vacationer, whether you’re interested in lounging by one of the many pools or exploring one of the area’s famous pueblos mágicos (magic towns).

Here is my full review of Conrad Punta de Mita.

The Rooms

The resort has 324 rooms and suites. Families or larger groups looking to stretch out can book a two-bedroom residence equipped with a full kitchen and serviced by a personal concierge. Similarly, the oceanview and beachfront suites offer ample space, and most have private plunge pools.

I stayed in a Signature Beachfront Suite boasting over 1,400 square feet of luxe spaces, including two bathrooms, a living room, a separate bedroom, and a patio with a full couch and a plunge pool.

Natural light-hued woods, wicker furniture, airy white curtains, and artwork from local artists were the decor highlights of the bedroom and living room. The primary bathroom had large marble countertops, double sinks, a vanity, a separate shower and a tub, and access to an outdoor shower. Byredo’s Mojave Ghost is the resort’s staple toiletry.

The patio, furnished with an outdoor couch and two loungers facing the beach, was the best feature of the suite. I spent plenty of time there reading and relaxing, and the sound of crashing waves was the perfect white noise for me. One morning at sunrise, I even enjoyed a floating breakfast in my plunge pool.

Food and Drink

Dine al fresco on classic Mexican dishes at the Arbol terrace.

The resort has seven restaurant and bar options.

Codex offers elevated Mexican cuisine steeped in traditional and regional flavors and techniques. When I arrived at the restaurant, a staff member performed a smoke energy-cleansing ritual. The food was delicious—the tuna tartare molete with plantains and fried chili sauce stood out—and presented beautifully.

Mezquite is the resort’s elegant beachfront eatery. The food here is grilled fresh and over an open fire, and dishes range from reimagined Mexican classics to American favorites. I recommend the smoked local oysters.

Breakfast is served at Arbol, where guests can choose from an à la carte menu (the chilaquiles are a must-order) and an excellent buffet with fresh pastries, fruits, and juices.

The poolside bar Paleta serves chilled drinks, light bites, and sandwiches, while Aura is the swim-up bar in the hotel’s adults-only infinity pool. The rest of the on-site bars, Tuki and The Lounge at Codex, offer delightful hand-crafted cocktails. At Agave Studio, guests can book tastings led by the in-house agave expert, who guides them through the various flavor profiles of tequila, mezcal, sotol, and other agave-based spirits.

However, the zarandeado beach barbecue was the highlight of the culinary offerings. Local fishermen from the village La Cruz de Huanacaxtle bring in the freshest catches of the day to be grilled right on the beach over mesquite wood. The feast starts with a freshly prepared ceviche, but the star of the show is the grilled fish. There’s even dessert offered afterward to fulfill any lingering cravings.

Activities and Experiences

With three on-site pools and access to the beach, there are plenty of spots where guests can relax and beat the heat. Private butler-serviced cabanas are available for rent.

The hotel offers various on-site activities, like guided bicycle tours, wellness activities, and cooking and cocktail-making classes. Sailing, fishing, horseback riding, zip lining, and many other experiences are available to those looking to venture outside the resort.

The gym has cardio and strength training equipment for anyone looking to maintain their fitness routines while on vacation. Golfers can step out of the resort and onto the 18-hole Higuera Golf Club, located only a few minutes from Conrad Punta de Mita.

The Spa

Choose one of the many spa treatments at the Conrad Spa.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Huichol culture, the spa blends nature and spirituality in its treatments. With multiple pools and cocoon-like outdoor treatment spaces made from natural materials, it is the perfect relaxation space.

However, one of the most popular experiences is the temazcal ceremony. Led by a local shaman, small groups are taken into a domed-shaped structure to detox in the dry heat. Though I didn’t experience it myself, other guests said it is incredibly fulfilling, albeit extremely challenging (hydration is key).

Other traditional wellness experiences include a two-hour kupuri ceremony focused on energy cleansing through smoke and meditation.

Family-friendly Offerings

Conrad Punta de Mita is the perfect place for a family vacation. Two of the three on-site pools are suitable for kids. The family pool features a water slide, while the splash pad and kiddie pool are only a foot deep. Kids under 12 eat for free here, and all the restaurants offer kids’ menus that include elevated options like prime beef tenderloin (an impressive upgrade from chicken nuggets and mac and cheese).

The resort’s Turi Kids Club is designed for children ages four to 12, where they can participate in complimentary activities and play with toys. Babysitting services are also available.

Accessibility and Sustainability

The resort offers two types of ADA-compliant rooms: a king bedroom and a two queen bedroom. Both room types are fixed with wider doorways, lowered fixtures, and bathroom bars.

Wheelchair-friendly pathways line the property, making every area accessible for everyone. Elevators and accessible parking are also available on-site.

Conrad Punta de Mita is located about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Guests can arrange a shuttle service through the resort. Taxis are also available at the airport, but make sure to agree on a price with the driver before leaving.

During my stay, I visited the town of Sayulita, which is only 20 minutes from the resort. Known for its incredible surfing and more touristy nature, it’s the perfect place to hit the beach, go shopping, and enjoy local food.

Other hot spots near Conrad Punta de Mita include the town of San Francisco (or San Pancho), famous for its art scene, and the Marieta Islands, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and national park, where visitors can enjoy whale watching, scuba diving, or explore secluded beaches.

How to Get the Most Value Out of Your Stay
