Jadon Sancho has criticised Chelsea’s defending after scoring his first goal since December 8 in their surprise 2-2 Premier League draw at home to Ipswich Town.
The Blues would have gone fourth with victory against the third-bottom side but were 2-0 behind by the 32nd minute, rescuing a point through Axel Tuanzebe’s 46th-minute own goal and a superb curling Sancho strike with 11 minutes remaining.
“We knew Ipswich are very good on counters and, with the number of chances we had, I thought at least four of [ours] should have gone in,” the former England winger said.
“It’s not good enough, conceding two goals early on. Hats off to their ‘keeper [Alex Palmer], who made some incredible saves. It’s just one of those games where we had so many chances and, on the day, just fell short.”

Jadon Sancho: Goal vs Ipswich ‘brilliant’
Chelsea have won five of their last 16 league games as their bid to achieve Champions League qualification by finishing in the top five has faltered.
Julio Enciso struck his first goal of his loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion for the opener at Stamford Bridge, then returned the favour for Ben Johnson to head in as the Tractor Boys, who are all but mathematically relegated, threatened a repeat of their 2-0 home win over Chelsea on December 30.
“I actually thought we played better in the second half,” said Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna. “We had more chances and it was an even game with both teams pushing for goals.
“Conceding from kick-off was a big setback… [and] it was a brilliant moment from Jadon to score.”

Manchester United loanee Sancho came on 11 minutes before his equaliser, ending a run of 21 appearances without a goal since he scored in a 4-3 win at Tottenham.
The 25-year-old has had a productive week, providing two assists in Chelsea’s 3-0 win at Legia Warsaw in their Conference League quarter-finals first leg on Thursday.
Chelsea are a point behind Manchester City, who occupy the final fifth position that will result in Champions League football next season.

“We’ve just got to stick together,” said Sancho. “Each of these games is going to be final and to get that Champions League spot, we have to fight from the first minute to the last.
“We’re going to need everyone, especially the fans. We believe in ourselves.”
