Caterham’s CSR Twenty Is The Priciest, Most Premium Seven Ever

The interior features premium leather and Alcantara upholstery, combined with a satin carbon dashboard

  • Caterham has introduced the Seven CSR Twenty, celebrating 20 years of the CSR.
  • The CSR Twenty is the most premium and expensive Caterham offering yet.
  • Production will be limited to 20 units for the UK and 20 for the US market.

Caterham recently said goodbye to the Seven 485 with the Final Edition, but this wasn’t the last world on the classic model. The new Seven CSR Twenty is the most expensive Caterham ever made, with a starting price of £79,995 ($102,500). The limited production special celebrates the 20th anniversary of the CSR chassis, and is said to feature Caterham’s most premium interior yet.

On the outside, the Seven CSR Twenty borrows the nose and front wings from the Seven 620, and features a two-tone Union Flag grille. It rides on CSR-exclusive 15-inch Vulcan alloy wheels with red brake calipers. The model also gets LED headlights and taillights, and offers the option between two exterior shades – Kinetic Grey, and Dynamic Silver – combined with contrasting graphics.

Caterham claims that the interior of this Seven is “unmatched in terms of quality and finish”. The seats are upholstered in premium Muirhead leather with Alcantara inserts, featuring red stitching and CSR Twenty logos on the seatbacks.

Another cool touch is the satin carbon dashboard, with CSR Twenty edition gauges. The Momo steering wheel and center tunnel are wrapped in leather, while the gear shifter and the handbrake are covered in Alcantara. Finally, there is a numbered plaque between the seats, signifying the limited nature of this Seven.

The Seven CSR Twenty is based on “Caterham’s most compliant chassis”, which was originally introduced in 2005. It features inboard front and fully independent rear suspension, alongside ventilated front discs with four-piston calipers.

Under the hood lies the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter Ford Duratec four-cylinder engine from the Seven 420, producing 210 hp (157 kW / 213 PS) and 203 Nm (150 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox allowing a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 136 mph (219 km/h).

Bob Laishley, CEO of Caterham Cars, said: “This is without doubt the most premium Seven we’ve ever built. The interior of the car is a level up from what we’ve produced before thanks to an array of high-quality materials used throughout. When you combine this with the exhilarating and engaging handling of our CSR chassis, this really is a Caterham built for longer distance road trips.”

Caterham will build 20 units of the Seven CSR Twenty for the UK market, and another 20 units for the US market, for a total of 40. The special edition is the first to be manufactured in Caterham’s new Dartford factory in the UK.
