Jeep is recalling close to 80,000 SUVs over a dangerous camera issue

Jeep has a new recall on its hands for nearly 80,000 SUVs.

This hasn’t been the best year for Stellantis and the cars and brands that fall under its umbrella. Sadly, this bad luck continues as Jeep is issuing another car recall. This time, the issue is with the rearview cameras in some of what many would call the best SUVs to buy. Luckily, auto mechanics at Jeep dealers will fix the problem for free.

Jeep is no stranger to a car recall

No one wants to deal with a car recall. However, they are often necessary for safety. According to Local 12, Jeep is recalling nearly 80,000 of what some people call the best SUVs to buy. This includes the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee L, and both versions of the Jeep Wagoneer. Of course, these are among the most popular Stellantis cars, meaning the issue is widespread.

The malfunction prompting the car recall involves faulty rearview cameras. Specifically, a software issue can cause the rearview camera’s display not to appear. Of course, many people have become accustomed to using the camera when reversing, which means this problem could increase the likelihood of a crash. Impacted owners can expect an official notification letter toward the end of January. Owners can take their SUVs to auto mechanics at Jeep dealers, where they will update the software for free.

Regarding specific models impacted by this car recall, it includes the following:

  • 34,485 units of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 24,330 units of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
  • 20,550 units of the 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer
