The 4th International Conference on the Military History of the Mediterranean Sea will be held by Ibn Haldun University, University of Ioannina and Hellenic Historical Society in Ioannina, Greece, on 9-11 June 2025.
The organizing committee includes Georgios Theotokis (Ibn Haldun University), Efstratia (Effie) Sygkellou (University of Ioannina), Halil Berktay (Ibn Haldun University), Angeliki Delikari (Hellenic Historical Society), and Dimitrios Sidiropoulos (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). Abstracts for the conference should be sent to [email protected] or [email protected], and the deadline for proposals is December 30, 2024.
The Organizing Committee welcomes papers that explore any topic related to the following thematics:
- The study of battlefields within medieval military history (e.g. battlefield geography, artifacts and archaeology, methodologies).
- Primary sources and their value for the military history of the Mediterranean Sea.
- The emergence and consolidation of customs of military obligation.
- Strategy, tactics (battle and siege) and logistics in the regional operational theatres.
- Naval warfare.
- Society at war, and the treatment of the defeated.
- Leadership and the role of the general.
