This is one of the reasons feel unsafe on the road at night.
Becoming a victim of car theft is a huge fear for many people. Of course, the same is true for carjacking, which is a related crime. Recently, police in Baltimore arrested a man for doing both of these things after he evaded a traffic stop. Now, he’s facing some pretty serious charges.
Car theft is a major problem all over the world
According to Shore News Network, a police officer noticed a car at a gas station with the lights off on the night of December 23rd. Fearing there may have been something wrong, the officer called out to the person near the car, who said someone had just robbed them. The suspect had just driven off in a Honda Civic, which prompted a pursuit and an attempted traffic stop. The police officer also had help from a helicopter.
As is often the case, the driver refused to pull over for the traffic stop. Sadly, the driver increased his speed to a point that made it unsafe for the police officer to continue the pursuit. Luckily, the helicopter continued to track the vehicle. This led the police to soon be able to arrest the suspect. However, he tried to evade them on foot first.
Following the traffic stop, the police searched the vehicle and found a handgun. It was also uncovered that he had committed car theft for the Honda Civic. The man also had a warrant for his arrest. They took him to the Central Booking Intake Facility for processing, and now he’s behind bars. Regarding the carjacking victim, he was unharmed and later received his stolen items back.
