Year-end period always witness dropped sales in this segment, but decline in sales in 2024 is significantly higher than last year
Within the 350cc classic bike portfolio, Royal Enfield is a leading brand. The company has also extended its portfolio to include 650cc and 450cc motorcycles. Challenging Royal Enfield’s 450cc portfolio are Hero MotoCorp and Harley-Davidson duo with their 440 motorcycles along with Bajaj, KTM, Husqvarna trio with their 390 motorcycles.
Bajaj And Hero 400cc Bike Sales Nov 2024
For the month of November 2024, Royal Enfield sold a total of 2,331 units of 450cc bikes (1,534 units of Himalayan 450 and 797 units of Guerrilla 450). Topping the Bajaj and Hero 400cc bike sales Nov 2024 charts, we have Triumph 400 lineup selling 2,240 units and accounting for 58.58% of this chart.
When compared to the 2,661 units sold in November 2023 and 4,005 units sold in October 2024, Triumph 400 registered 15.82% YoY decline and 44.07% MoM decline losing 421 units YoY and 1,765 units MoM. Triumph has increased its market presence, despite losing sales. That’s because the other motorcycles in this chart have lost volume in significant numbers.
In 2nd place, we have Bajaj Pulsar 400 with 582 units sold last month. When compared to the 1,322 units sold a month before, Bajaj Pulsar 400 sales more than halved at 55.98% MoM decline, losing 740 units in volume. The significant drop in sales registered by this segment is common during the year end and sales should pick up in 2025.
Harley-Davidson X440 sold 387 units last month and sales were down by 5.5X when compared to the 2,160 units sold last year with 82.08% YoY decline losing 1,773 units. Even in MoM analysis, X440 saw 5.6X decline when compared to 2,200 units sold a month before, losing 1,813 units in volume.
In 4th place, KTM’s 390 lineup combined, managed to sell 290 units with 71.03% YoY and 43.47% MoM decline, losing 711 units in volume YoY and 223 units in volume MoM. KTM is caught up in a global crisis and has even filed for insolvency. Bajaj Dominar 400 sold 278 units with 27.03% YoY and 43.61% MoM decline.
3,821 Units Sold In Total
Among the country’s most underrated motorcycles is Hero Mavrick 440, which sold 34 units and suffered a massive 82.65% MoM decline. It is a vastly underrated and misunderstood motorcycle as reflected in Rushlane’s review of Mavrick 440.
Lastly, we have the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 with 13 units sold. Svartpilen registered a 71.74% MoM decline as opposed to 46 units sold a month before. In total, Bajaj and Hero 400cc Bike sales Nov 2024 charts registered a total of 3,824 units. When compared to the 6,203 units sold a year ago and 8,775 units sold a month before, the segment saw 38.35% YoY and 56.42% MoM decline, losing 2,379 units in volume YoY and 4,951 units MoM.
