Aston Villa are set to beat Arsenal to the signing of Rosenborg wonderkid Sverre Nypan this summer, according to The Athletic.
The Norwegian youngster was linked with the Gunners during the winter transfer window, but made the decision to stay with Rosenborg.
It was anticipated that Arsenal would be favourites to sign him in the summer, but Villa have now jumped ahead in the pecking order.
The Midlands outfit have opened talks with the player and they are seemingly confident of landing his services ahead of the Gunners.
Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in the 18-year-old, who has been likened to Martin Odegaard for his playing style.
Nypan is likely to choose Unai Emery‘s side ahead of other suitors. He has reportedly received the assurance of more first-team minutes.
With the emergence of Ethan Nwaneri at Arsenal, Nypan probably feels he has a better chance to develop in the number 10 role at Villa.
