The Perth men are still fighting for their lives but belief is soaring again after their incredible victory over Brendan Rodgers’ side
Andy Fisher insists St Johnstone can defy the doom merchants who have condemned the Saints for the drop after bashing the bookies against Celtic.
The Perth side overcame massive odds to secure a stunning win against the champions-elect on Sunday.
And hero keeper Fisher is convinced they can keep causing surprises by surviving in the Premiership.
The sensational victory against the league leaders clawed the gap at the bottom back to five points to Dundee with six games to go.
Simo Valakari’s Saints looked dead and buried a few weeks ago but their no.1 insists the Hoops result has given the McDiarmid men hope.
Fisher said: “Everyone wrote us off before the game. To get the win is like a bonus three points in a way.
“It gives us a better chance now, to hopefully go out and get another three points and claw back a bit of that difference going into the split.
“Towards the end of the season, when we need the points, it’s huge. Everyone wrote us off. You look at the schedule and you probably write yourself off in a way! But we stuck to our gameplan and got the result.
“There’s still a belief within our squad we can stay up. Next week is a big game, it’s a must-win.
“We can hopefully keep the points close going into the split. Obviously there are 15 points up for grabs in the five games after the split.
“Hopefully we can go into that and get a few wins.”
Saints were superb against Celts and Fisher wants to back it up against Dundee United at Tannadice this weekend.
The borrowed Swansea City shot stopper said: “It was massive. I was incredibly proud of everyone – the players, the staff, the fans, everyone behind the scenes.
“It shows we’ve bounced back from last week. That wasn’t the result we wanted or the performance we wanted.
“But we’ve come out and got a clean sheet and the win against Celtic shows we can beat anyone.
“We have to go out next week and get the three points or this win means nothing.
“We can’t control what goes on outside of here. We can only try to control what goes on inside and on the pitch.
“I think it shows real resilient performance. We weren’t good enough last week.
“We wanted to show how good we are against the best team in the league. A win and a clean sheet is massive.”
Fisher played his part in the famous Hoops win – St Johnstone’s first over Celts in 32 attempts – with several terrific saves late on.
The 27-year-old is relishing his run out in Scotland and is determined to complete the comeback.
He said: “This is what I came here to do. I came here to play games, play against the best teams in Scotland and to show everyone what I can do.
“This game is a huge bonus for me personally and I’m glad I could help out the team, the fans and the club.
“My first game was Rangers away. We’ve made a few signings since then, that’s made the squad a lot better.
“We had a change of shape against Celtic which made us a lot more solid.
“We got the goal and we held on. The Rangers game, I had one session then played. We’ve come on leaps and bounds from there.
“I think we made it hard for Celtic. The chances they did get weren’t obviously chances and I was there to save them.
“There’s a trust there at the back, we’ve got a good connection. We trust each other, we listen to each other.
“We work hard for each other and dig each other out of trouble when something happens.
“That’s one win, we enjoyed it. But we were straight back in the morning to recover and lead into the next game and hopefully get the three points.”
