Fire tablets started as budget tablets since their initial release many moons ago. The 2024 Fire HD 8 is the latest iteration of their mid-tier tablet, which was released this fall, but you can already find it for nearly half the price. If you’re looking for a budget tablet to do some streaming or social media doom scrolling, the 32GB Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet is $54.99 (originally $99.99), a great value for your money.
The previous Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet came out in 2022, with this newer 2024 version adding an extra GB of RAM for a total of 3GB. The Fire HD 8 gets its name from the 8-inch screen display with 1,280 by 800 pixels, has a Hexa-core 2.0 GHz processor, a resolution of 1,280 by 800 pixels, about 10 hours of battery life, a brighter screen than the older version, and a 32GB storage capacity with the possibility to expand it to 1TB if you want to buy more separately. The front camera is the same 2MP with 720p HD video recording, but the rear camera is now a 5MP lens with 1080p HD video recording.
The high-definition touch screen is not amazing by any means, but for a $54.99 tablet, you’ll get great value for your money if you’re just looking for something you can carry around to watch your shows or browse online. This is a great budget tablet, but keep in mind that since it is a Fire Tablet, you’ll be limited in terms of the apps with Amazon’s own app store unless you download the Google Play Store.
