He eventually tried to escape on foot.
There are several reasons police could pull someone over for a traffic stop. However, this is often more of a routine thing. Still, refusing to comply typically makes things worse. This recently happened in Alabama, and now the driver is behind bars for trafficking charges due to what the police found in his car.
He tried to run from a traffic stop, and now he’s facing serious charges
According to WHNT, Huntsville police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the evening hours on December 23rd. However, the driver refused to pull over for the police, prompting a chase. It’s unclear how long the chase lasted, but the details paint the picture that the driver reached a high speed.
Naturally, the police officers continued trying to make the traffic stop. Eventually, the driver pulled over, and he and a passenger got out and attempted to escape on foot. Of course, the police continued the pursuit, and they eventually placed the two people into handcuffs. The police also searched the vehicle and then learned why the people tried so hard to evade them.
The search during the traffic stop revealed that the people were trying to conceal a large volume of drugs. This includes 31 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of meth, and multiple types of prescription drugs- including oxycodone, tramadol, etc. The police department arrested the driver, Melvin Hayes, 29. They are charging him with drug trafficking, possession of intent to distribute, four counts of possession of synthetic narcotics, and felony attempt to flee and elude. The passenger’s involvement is unclear.
