Stowaway raccoon blows his cover at NYC airport as passengers wait to board a Spirit Airlines flight

An unwelcome four-legged guest at a Spirit Airlines terminal caused a panic after it dropped from the ceiling at LaGuardia.

Raccoons are intriguing little survivors. They scavenge, plunder, and plot the best means to score their next meal. Frankly, a recent interaction between Spirit Airlines staff and a so-called “trash panda” illustrated the little critter’s resolve all too perfectly. A raccoon dropped from the ceiling at LaGuardia airport causing a panic among the travel terminal’s occupants.

A rambunctious raccoon fell from the ceiling of a Spirit Airlines terminal at LaGuardia, causing panic among travelers and staff

You expect a lot in today’s travel landscape. Discourteous airplane passengers using their smartphones at full volume without headphones. Commonplace delays and cancellations derail your travel plans. However, you likely don’t expect a raccoon to drop from the ceiling of the terminal like a ninja hell-bent on causing a panic.

Well, that’s exactly what happened to Spirit Airlines staff and travelers at LaGuardia International Airport (LGA). According to the New York Post, the little mammal fell through an open portion of the ceiling in the Spirit Airlines portion of LGA. Humorously, readers are giving the airline a hard time for the little critter’s appearance.

One X, formerly Twitter, post showcased the raccoon’s adventure through the terminal. At one point, viewers can hear an audible alarm as the critter causes discontent in the terminal. A commenter responded with “Bro what is going on??? Someone pull the fire alarm because of the raccoon? Did the raccoon pull the fire alarm? Did the fire alarm cause the raccoon to come out? I have so many questions.”

Fortunately, Spirit Airlines staff reportedly moved travelers away from the raccoon. However, the quick actions of the airline staff didn’t stop social media users from attributing the raccoon’s visit to LaGuardia itself. “This is both the most LaGuardia thing and the most Spirit Airlines thing to happen,” one poster suggested. Fortunately, LaGuardia staff is reportedly making efforts to prevent critter intrusions like the raccoon incident in the future.
