This pink classic Aston Martin is going racing with an eye-popping shade.
Grayscale colors and grand tourers go together like Audis and tailgating. They just work. I mean, slither into a cinema seat to watch a James Bond film and you’re likely to see 007 emerge from a sleek, silver GT car. However, if you’re looking for something different, DPM Autobody has a bright Aston Martin solution that Barbie would park alongside her Chevrolet Corvette.
DPM Autobody in the UK transformed a wrecked racing Aston Martin DB6 into an unapologetically pink Barbie ride
Okay, so a pink Aston Martin isn’t outside the realm of possibility. Incidentally, a bright pink Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake had internet users scratching their heads a few years ago. However, you likely haven’t seen a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 in a pink hue that Barbie would surely love.
BBC Radio Sussex caught up with David Pearce-Martin of DPM Autobody in Polegate, England. Pearce-Martin and the team at DPM Autobody are responsible for the eye-popping GT car. Humorously, he says he suggested pink as something of a joke.
Although the rosy shade started as a jest, the team decided to move forward with it for the sake of standing out. “Initially I thought ‘What have I done?’ But surprisingly I now think it works quite well.” While the pictures may do it some justice, fans who want to see the pink DB6 in person will have to go to the Classic Car Show in Birmingham, England.
Before its transformation, the car was a quintessential green GT car in the employ of Apparently Racing, an English racing team. Unfortunately, the verdant DB6 ended up on its roof during the La Carrera Panamericana rally in Mexico. DPM Autobody took on the task of restoring the car and preparing it to race once more. Now in its bright pink livery, the car is set to take on motorsports with Apparently Racing once more.
However, you likely won’t see Barbie driving the car on the big screen anytime soon. The character’s 2023 film featured a series of General Motors (GM) vehicles, including a classic pink C1 Chevrolet Corvette. Still, the completed Aston Martin DB6 does have that Barbie-esque quality. Maybe if the character added a secret agent gig to the long list of careers.
