2025 looks to be another prolific year for Guy Ritchie, with “MobLand,” “The Fountain Of Youth” and (potentially) “In The Grey” all premiering this year. And don’t forget about “Wife & Dog” and Netflix‘s “The Gentlemen” Season 2, both in production now. But World of Reel and Puck confirm that Ritchie has yet another project to add to his queue, and it’s a surprise that, under close scrutiny, actually makes a lot of sense.

Both outlets report that Ritchie will take the reins from Doug Liman to direct “Road House 2” over at Amazon MGM Studios. Jake Gyllenhaal returns as bouncer Elwood Dalton for the follow-up, with Will Beall on board to pen the script. A sequel job for Ritchie? It’ll be just the second one in his filmography after 2011’s “Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows” (“Aladdin 2” has never gotten past development stage, in no small part due to Will Smith‘s recent career woes), but one that Ritchie could thrive with. Last year’s “Road House” remake was streaming gold: a dumb, punchy action movie with broad masculine appeal. In other words, that’s Guy Ritchie territory, which he’ll no doubt elevate with his trademark wit, style, and “sophisticated” flash.
And one should expect Amazon MGM to get the ball rolling on “Road House 2” ASAP. The 2024 film was a major hit for the studio, ratcheting up almost 100 million views on Prime Video, its most-watched film debut globally. But the movie’s lack of a theatrical release pissed off Liman, who publicly damned Amazon MGM’s release strategy in an op-ed. Liman’s sense of betrayal must run deep because a year later the studio has Ritchie lined up to direct the sequel instead. And with Puck reporting that Amazon MGM plans to release the follow-up in theaters, Liman may start raging about that situation all over again.
Will anyone else from “Road House” besides Gyllenhaal be back for “Road House 2?” That’s undetermined, but don’t be surprised if Conor McGregor returns as psychopathic villain Knox. Less likely are Daniela Melchior, Jessica Williams, and Lukas Gage, but who knows? Ritchie and Beall may opt for a different setting for the sequel than the Florida Keys this time around.
As for Liman? He has “Everest” on the way, but he’s currently working on the Tom Cruise thriller “Deeper” over at Warner Bros. So, to busy to take Amazon MGM’s call…
Expect a 2026 release for “Road House 2,” as Ritchie will be done with duties on “Wife & Dog” before summer arrives.
