Virgin River Season 6 has been piquing interest ever since its premiere. It resumed the chaotic love story of Melinda “Mel” Monroe and Jack Sheridan. Aside from the engaging storyline, there is one more aspect that has left fans intrigued. It is the replacement of Calvin who was played by David Cubitt. So, why was Calvin recast in Virgin River Season 6?
Here is everything you need to know about this development in the romantic drama series.
Why Virgin River Season 6 recast David Cubitt’s Calvin with Josh Blacker
The reason behind David Cubitt’s replacement with Josh Blacker in Virgin River Season 6 is not confirmed.
Season 6 witnessed actor Josh Blacker known for his roles in The Wall and Elysium taking over the role of Calvin. This change was for two episodes in the season. This unexpected change left fans confused, as neither the show’s creators nor Blacker addressed the situation. Many speculate that the recasting was due to scheduling conflicts with David Cubitt.
Talking about Calvin’s role in Virgin River, he serves as a foil character to the main leads Mel and Jack. Calvin is introduced as a dangerous gang leader creating trouble for everyone around. He is the mastermind behind the local drug smuggling and even takes advantage of the feud between Jack and his friend Brady. Further, he brings Brady to join his illegal business of cannabis.
In Season 4, tensions reach a peak when Calvin is presumed dead following an explosion in his boat. However, in the next season, it is revealed that he survived the deadly blast. Further, he gets his sentence nullified by helping the cops. It is also revealed that he is the father of Charmaine’s kids and in Season 6 she defeats Calvin in a legal battle to gain custody of the twins. Calvin blames Jack and decides to get his kids at any cost.
At the end of Season 6, Charmaine and his kids end up disappearing with the suspicions falling on Calvin. It will be interesting to see how the character shapes up in the future with Virgin River renewed for Season 7.
