No one expected this to happen.
We’ve said it before, but car theft is a massive problem that has wide-reaching impacts. Sadly, it can happen to anyone at any time. However, most drivers don’t assume it’ll happen during a church service. This is what occurred recently in New York on Christmas Eve.
Car theft impacts people in ways most can never imagine
According to WHEC, a recent Penfield, New York event shocked and appalled a group of people following a Christmas Eve mass. Sadly, these people exited the church only to find that many of them had become victims of car theft. While they were in church, someone had broken into 13 cars. Even worse, one churchgoer’s 2019 Kia Sorento with Virginia license plates went missing from the lot. The people attending the Christmas Eve mass were parked at a nearby elementary school.
Naturally, this level of car theft caught everyone off guard. No one ever expects to become a victim because this seems like such an extreme crime. According to one of the churchgoers, “I mean, this is typically a safe area from what we understand. We’ve been coming here a long time. Never seen anything like this happen, especially on the holidays, Christmas time. My wife and I got married here. We’ve had our daughter baptized here, so we’ve been coming here a very long time, and nothing like this has ever happened.”
Sadly, the local police have no leads regarding the car theft perpetrators. However, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is accepting tips from anyone who may have information on who committed these crimes. Still, they are expressing the importance of keeping valuables out of sight and locking car doors in order to prevent car theft.
