The closer it gets to Christmas, the more stress we experience – especially as parents. Trina Marie Vazquez, a 30-year-old woman in Houston, was caught in the universal struggle of finding a parking spot at the mall. Another mom had her two daughters, 11 and 14, scout for a parking spot.
Their mom told them to reserve a parking spot by standing in it and to not move for anyone but her. Faithfully, her daughters found a spot and stood like statues. That’s when Vazquez entered the scene. She came across what looked like an empty spot, saw the two girls, and asked them to move.
They obeyed orders and stood still, waiting for their mother. When their mom arrived, Vazquez and the mother verbally fought. Before long, it turned physical.
“It’s alleged that one complainant was grabbed by the hair and hit,” a county official told KHOU. “It’s alleged that the mom got hit as well, and it’s alleged that the other complainant, who was 11, allegedly got pushed to the ground.”
She was put in handcuffs shortly afterward
Two men, who authorities assume were the women’s significant others, broke up the fight. Vazquez stormed off but was arrested after the mother called the police.
Authorities charged Vazquez with two counts of injury to a child and one count of assault, though she is currently out on bond.
Viewers were conflicted about the parking spot brawl
Many of the outlet’s viewers said the mother was ultimately to blame for placing her two young daughters in harm’s way over a parking spot. Others were angry she taught her children to unfairly reserve parking spots.
“First, you can’t hold a parking space with your body, and second, it’s not worth it, people!” one viewer wrote.
“I can’t believe the kid’s mom would put them in a situation like that,” another wrote. “Besides, that’s not playing fair. It’s first come, first serve.”
Someone else worried the girls could have suffered a worse fate.
“Mom puts her daughters in danger because she’s too lazy to walk and learned nothing because they didn’t get in ANY kind of trouble. Next time, it might be a guy on the edge with a gun,” they wrote. “Think she’ll take any responsibility for how she’s raising them then? Doubtful.”
