USPS driver caught on camera wiping mystery goo on mailboxes, arrested with $11,000 bond

Residents were stunned watching their once-gleeful mail carrier start wiping ‘brown stuff’ on their mailboxes on camera.

Residents in a quiet, North Branford, Connecticut neighborhood used to be close to their 62-year-old mail carrier. Michael Barulli and his neighbors spoke to Donna Sufyaan-Conyers regularly, even giving her gifts to celebrate holidays.

“We would give her waters, we’d give her Red Bulls, sodas, and about two years ago we gave her $100 for Christmas,” he told WFSB 3.

Then, incredibly suddenly, Sufyaan-Conyers’ behavior took a wild turn. Over about eight months, Barulli and his neighbors noticed strange substances being smeared on their mailboxes. The substance was different with each visit, ranging from what looked like white-out, jelly, or a suspicious brown material.

Barulli told reporters he’s called the police about 10 times over what he suspected was foul play, but without proof, they couldn’t do much.

“There was once a brown liquid on the bottom of one of the mailboxes which the police checked out and they said it was frosting, but there were several other substances that we had no idea what it could be,” he said.

So, Barulli set up cameras and took a step back.

The outlet released Barulli’s security camera footage showing Sufyaan-Conyers quickly rubbing mystery goop on the flag and mailbox. Once he showed the proof to police, she was arrested. Authorities charged her with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

She paid the $11,000 bond and is now free, which makes Barulli and his neighbors nervous.

“I hate to see people get in trouble and I’d hate to see her lose her job, but I don’t want her back here,” he said.
