MEININGER Hotels is expanding its presence in France with a new hotel development in Strasbourg, marking its fifth location in the country. The hotel, set to open in 2027, will be located at 16 Place de Gare, directly across the main train station. The existing Europcar building, owned by Crédit Agricole Alsace Vosges and Banque des Territoires, will be demolished for the new structure.
The upcoming development is a Kaufman & Broad project that will cover almost 4,000 square meters across eight floors. The ground floor will still accommodate a Europcar branch alongside the new MEININGER Hotel.
The MEININGER Hotel Strasbourg will have 114 rooms accommodating up to 349 guests. The rooms will vary from double rooms to triple, quadruple, and six-bed rooms, adhering to MEININGER’s room flexibility concept. The hotel’s location at Place de Gare offers easy access to the city’s key attractions, including La Petite France, the Grande Île, and the European Parliament.
Strasbourg, the seventh-largest city in France, draws over four million tourists yearly. The city’s unique blend of French and German cultures and significant European institutions contribute to its appeal. Strasbourg is known for its UNESCO-recognized old town, breweries, wineries, and the world-famous Christmas market.
According to Ajit Menon, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, the new hotel’s hybrid concept, combining the best elements of hostels and hotels, makes it a perfect fit for Strasbourg’s diverse visitors, including families, couples, backpackers, school groups, friends, and business travelers.
The MEININGER Hotel in Strasbourg is one of four new locations currently in development, along with Barcelona, Kiel, and Edinburgh. The company is also renovating ten existing properties, part of its strategy of growth through new properties and investments in existing ones. Prioritizing quality and sustainability, the company aims to gradually expand its hybrid hotel concept into new markets.
