A North Carolina man tried to escape from cops by stealing a tow truck, but he hit the front of a gun shop
There is a rising trend of people stealing vehicles and using them to crash into shops to steal tons of valuables. The latest example is from North Carolina because a man used a stolen tow truck to slam into a gun shop as part of his crime spree.
North Carolina man hits a gun shop with a stolen tow truck
North Carolina police officers responded to a messy scene Saturday morning, in central Apex. A thief used a stolen tow truck to slam into the Apex Coin and Currency shop on 703 E. Williams St.
The tow truck was stolen from the inspection center next door, following an assault. It plowed through the front window and hit the back wall of the shop, sending guns and merchandise flying.
Crumbling bricks and cinderblocks surrounded the area and the back of the truck was hanging out the front of the shop.
The Apex Fire Department was called to the scene for search and rescue services. They shared that luckily, no one was inside the shop during the crash. But town officials condemned the building due to structural damage.
According to the News Observer, police officers have a suspect in custody. His information is being withheld pending further investigation.
But the suspect is also accused of two assaults that began at the Circle K gas station on the corner. One of the victims was seriously injured.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene of the coin shop, finally ending his wild crime spree. He faces two counts of strongarm robbery, and two counts of assault with one including inflicting serious injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, and injury to property.
