It’s been a domestic season to forget for the former Celtic boss in North London with the Europa League his one big hope
Micah Richards have revealed his admiration for Ange Postecoglou goes way back BEFORE Celtic – thanks to Chris Sutton.
The former Manchester City and Aston Villa star admitted he studied his playing style and career from afar and admired the aggressive nature of his teams and the forward-thinking and taking risks.
It was something he brought to Scotland at Celtic with ‘Angeball’ becoming a major hit north of the border. It got Tottenham fans excited in his debut campaign but his second season in the English Premier League has been one to forget.
Spurs have had major injury woe this term but they sit 16th in the league and have lost 18 league games.
They do have a Europa League semi-final on the horizon and a major shot at silverware and with that Champions League qualification. It would also see Ange deliver on his second season trophy promise – but the troubles on and off the park have caught Richards’ eye.
Sitting alongside Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker on ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast, the leading pundit said: “What’s going wrong with Spurs?
“I gave my opinion last week, and the manager is getting involved in press conferences. Not being himself. Biting back, and all that.
“But actually, if you look on the field. Forget off the field, for a moment. They are a shadow of the team that they were.
“I have been a big admirer of Ange for a while now, and that was because of Chris Sutton. This was before he was even at Celtic. Chris talked about him when he was in Japan.
“So, I studied him. I studied his style of play. It was aggressive. It was forward-thinking. It was taking risks.
“Okay, they take risks when they are conceding goals, but they aren’t finishing their chances.”
