Manchester United look to have accepted their lack of firepower is their biggest issue ahead of this summer’s transfer window. The Red Devils are among the Premier League’s lowest scorers with Victor Osimhen emerging as a target.

Ruben Amorim has struggled to make an impact thus far and the lack of goals in his team is a major factor. Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have both been unable to find the net regularly with fresh faces being targeted – Osimhen among them.

Whilst neither of United’s front pair have hit double figures the Nigerian striker, who is on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray from Napoli, has hit 29 goals in 34 games this season. He will return to Italy imminently where his contract has 12 months to run.

The Manchester outfit are looking to take advantage of his situation and sign the player for well below his market value as they push ahead with a £40million deal. Osimhen, previously a target for Chelsea, has been open about his desire to eventually play in the Premier League.

United have relied heavily upon Bruno Fernandes in recent months but there has been a lack of help for the Portuguese playmaker. Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation is yet to bear fruit at Old Trafford and the three attacking players shoulder huge responsibility.

With Fernandes needing more assistance United are ready to raid the market with Matheus Cunha, along with Osimhen, among the players they’re targeting. The Wolves star has proven to be a massive hit and has been the main reason they’ve steered themselves clear of the drop.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot previously declared Cunha could play for an elite side and the new contract he signed in January included a £62.5m release clause. United are willing to pay it as they make the first move in the race to sign the forward, who could further compliment their frontline, and they have been given encouragement that he’s keen to move to Old Trafford.

Amorim has defended Hojlund in recent days after he fired another blank in the loss at the weekend. The Dane cost more than £70m less than two years ago but hasn’t hit the heights expected and the Red Devils boss confessed that strikers will always be measured on goals, but called on his team-mates to support him.

Several of United’s other attacking options were unable to deliver earlier this season with Amorim happy to send them out on loan. Marcus Rashford and Antony have underperformed for some time, despite both showing in the past that they can contribute heavily.

Both men have excelled since leaving on loan with Rashford starting for Aston Villa and Antony regularly influencing matters for Real Betis. Both men could yet be cashed in on to help finance United’s summer recruitment with Jadon Sancho another man whose future could lie elsewhere as the Manchester outfit look to find a winning formula in attack.

Man Utd’s frontline could be transformed with some investment

A front three of Fernandes, Cunha and Osimhen would add another dimension to United who already have pieces of the jigsaw, some of which just haven’t clicked yet. Manuel Ugarte played under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon and is accustomed to his system in midfield with Kobbie Mainoo a long-term hope in the middle of the park.

Defensively Leny Yoro has shown enough to suggest he will only improve given his tender age. Harry Maguire has defied doubters and talk of an exit to continue stepping up whilst Lisandro Martinez, currently sidelined through injury, was among the club’s best defenders in his debut year at the club.

It is on the flanks where United are likely to make moves in the summer with wing-backs, a specialised position, so key to what Amorim is trying to achieve.
