It feels like fans have been waiting a while for “Alien: Earth,” the newest sci-fi series to expand on the ‘Alien’ universe. The show was announced all the way back in December 2020 and faced production delays in 2022 and 2023 due to the COVID pandemic and SAG-AFTRA strikes, respectively. Unfortunately, timing has plagued many projects these past three years, and the series promotion leg is gearing up.
But the wait is soon over. “Alien: Earth” is set to premiere in the coming months. And with show creator Noah Hawley (“Legion,” “Fargo”) at the helm, the franchise is definitely in good hands. Especially for fans of the original 1979 film, which is what Hawley drew inspiration from when creating the series. With less focus on the follow-up sequels “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant.” A back-to-basics formula that might prove to be the best way forward for the franchise.

The series stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Babou Ceesay, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille, and Moe Bar-El. Hawley serves as writer, director, and producer with additional directors Dana Gonzales and Ugla Hauksdóttir. Gonzales, Hawley, Walter Hill, and Ridley Scott are executive producers. “Alien: Earth” is based on characters co-created by original screenwriters Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett.
“Alien: Earth” is a prequel series that takes place two years prior to the events of the 1979 film “Alien.” It follows a group of soldiers who come into contact with the famous xenomorph alongside a mysterious spaceship (that happens to house a face-hugger seen in previous teasers) that crashes on the planet.
IGN adds that the new series that boasts the tagline “Witness The Birth of A New Saga” is set in 2120 and features five corporations: “Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold – wield the power of nations, and proprietary advancements in technology provide the promise of a new tomorrow.”

When a space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s biggest threat. As members of the crash recovery crew search for survivors among the wreckage, they encounter mysterious predatory life forms more terrifying than they could have ever imagined. With this new threat unlocked, the search crew must fight for survival, and what they choose to do with this discovery could change planet Earth as they know it.

“Alien: Earth” will arrive on Hulu this summer, as we wait for an official drop date.
