Matildas star Chloe Logarzo gets married in stunning ceremony in Thailand

  • Unlucky in football early in her career, but lucky in love
  • Married with a stunning beachside backdrop
  • Congratulated by a host of current and former teammates

Matilda Chloe Logarzo was incredibly unfortunate to miss out on playing in last year’s World Cup but she has proved very lucky in love as she married her partner McKenzie Berryhill in a stunning ceremony in Thailand.

The couple met in 2019 while both were playing for the Washington Spirit in America’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Logarzo proposed to Berryhill while they were holidaying on the Greek island of Mykonos in August 2021 and they celebrated their engagement with a subsequent trip to Paris.

Now the couple have officially tied the knot on the white sands of Thailand’s Maya Bay, with Logarzo declaring it, ‘simply the best week of our lives’.

A host of Matildas teammates have liked and commented on the images, with Ellie Carpenter posting ‘my faves’ with a heart emoji.

Logarzo has been referred to as the ‘unluckiest Matilda’ due to a series of significant injuries that have impacted her international career.

In September 2021, she suffered a ruptured ACL during a friendly match against Ireland, sidelining her for an extended period.

After her recovery, she faced another setback, with the foot condition plantar fasciitis further delaying her return to peak form.

These injuries led to her omission from the Matildas’ squad for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a major disappointment for the seasoned midfielder.

Despite these challenges, Logarzo has remained resilient, focusing on rehabilitation and contributing to the sport in other capacities, such as serving as an ambassador for World Pride during her recovery period.

‘Football definitely saved me, the Matildas was the thing that brought me back into being me as a person,’ she told ABC.

‘I always speak about how we spend more time with the girls than we do with our families; they become an extension of who we are and we all have a common goal and it’s nice to be able to have a family away from family.

‘The Matildas have been great over the last couple of years. They’ve taken leaps and bounds to support us in who we are as individuals.

‘This team is a safe space, and it has been for the longest time. It’s just never been spoken about outside of us. So for us to feel safe enough now to start coming out and talking about ourselves and our lives is really special.’

Logarzo (pictured left with Berryhill) struggled with her sexuality in her younger years but found strength through the Matildas and their inclusiveness

Logarzo began her career with Sydney FC in the 2011–12 W-League season. She has played internationally for clubs in Sweden, Norway, the United States, and England, including Eskilstuna United, Avaldsnes, Washington Spirit, and Bristol City.

She has earned over 49 caps for the Matildas since her debut in 2013, participating in major tournaments such as the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

As of November 2024, she serves as the captain of Western United in the A-League Women;s competition.

Berryhill, originally from Arizona, transitioned from her soccer career to a new role as a firefighter, joining the Phoenix Fire Department.

‘I’m very fortunate to be able to live two dreams in one lifetime. I can honestly say this has been the hardest, yet the most rewarding 16 weeks and I cannot wait to see where this career will take me,’ she said.
