Former 5-star defensive lineman and priority Spartans’ prospect David Stone has entered the transfer portal
A former big-time Michigan State target and five-star prospect has entered the transfer portal.
Could now be the time Michigan State wins the battle for coveted defensive lineman prospect David Stone? Stone entered the transfer portal on Friday night after a pair of seasons with Oklahoma.
Stone was one of the highest-rated prospects in the 2022 class, and was a top priority for former head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans. Michigan State was once considered the leader in his recruitment, but he ultimately picked the Sooners over the Spartans and Miami (FL) Hurricanes.
Stone appeared in all 13 games for Oklahoma this past season, recording six tackles — two for loss and one sack.
Due to league rules, Stone will not be able to transfer to another SEC school during the spring portal window. So that opens the door for a school like Michigan State — who is in need of defensive line help via the portal — to potentially make a run at Stone. At this time, there are no reports of who is considered a favorite to land Stone via the portal, but this is definitely a prospect worth monitoring over the next week or two.
