Giants would need to make historic offer for No. 1 pick

The New York Giants are scheduled to select third overall in the 2025 NFL draft later this month, and by all accounts will likely not be able to better their lot.

The Tennessee Titans appear to be locked into Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall pick, and NFL insider Dianna Russini believes it will take a “historic” trade offer for them to give up the pick.

“Cam Ward. All signs point to it,” Russini said of who the Titans will select. “I haven’t found anyone in football right now that has said to me, ‘Be careful. They may be just doing all of this to see if New York will come up and make some historic trade to get up there.’

“And I think that’s what it would take if it were to ever get to that point. It would have to be something we’ve almost never seen before.”

The Cleveland Browns, who select second, would have the best chance of prying the pick away from the Titans, but they’d also be making history by doing so. In the history of the draft, the top two teams in the order have never swapped No. 1 overall and No. 2 overall picks.

The Giants have eight picks in this draft, and it’s been reported ad nauseam that they are looking for a young quarterback to develop. But will general manager Joe Schoen overpay to move up to draft Ward?

Sure, Ward is a solid prospect but is not considered to be in the class of sone of the top picks in recent years. The Giants are desperate, but not that desperate after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency this offseason.

The best bet for the Giants is to find that quarterback somewhere on Day 2, where they have three selections.
