Psaki: Democrats are ‘in the wilderness’ with no ‘clear leader’

Former White House Communications Director and MSNBC host Jen Psaki said Democrats right now are “in the wilderness” with no clear leader to guide them after a brutal election loss.

“Look, I think Democrats are in the wilderness. As you said before, there is no clear leader of the party,” Psaki said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” highlighted by Mediaite.

She noted that President Biden is going to be out of office in less than 65 days, and Vice President Harris lost the presidential election.

Psaki noted that Democratic governors may emerge as the party’s leader. There’s talk about California Gov. Gavin Newsom taking charge, but as Psaki said Sunday, there is no clear leader right now.

After the brutal election loss, Democrats are left pointing fingers and trying to figure out where they went wrong with messaging and reaching working class voters.

While many are sounding the alarm bell about a second Trump term and the GOP controlling both chambers of Congress, Psaki sees it as an opportunity for Democrats.

“That, to me, is an opportunity, because people have to decide,” she said.

“Nobody is given it, right? You seize the mantle, or you don’t. Are you going to be the person … who’s the right person to stand up against Trump? Are you going to be the person who brings the country together? Are you going to be the person who talks about the economy in ways that people understand? There are a lot of ways to do it,” Psaki continued. “I don’t know who’s going to emerge, but that’s the moment we’re in now.”
