The 2025 Ford Maverick borrows features from a failed Ford SUV

While the 2025 Ford Maverick is a tiny truck, it owes much of its success to Ford SUVs. It’s based on the Ford Escape, which is still kicking. However, some of its features were taken from the failed model.

The 2025 Ford Maverick has features from a discontinued SUV

You may already know that the 2025 Ford Maverick shares many features with the Ford Escape. Both vehicles use the same platform and share suspension components.

However, parts that make the Maverick more athletic actually come from a discontinued Ford SUV. Remember the Ford Edge?

While the Ford Edge is sent off to pasture, Ford is taking advantage of leftover parts by using them in the Maverick.

For example, it has the same seven-speed automatic transmission as the Edge ST. It also has the same advanced twin-clutch all-wheel drive system.

These components are being placed with the more affordable Maverick Lobo trim that’s expected to drop later in 2025.

It will also feature the Lobo-specific drive move, enhanced brakes, and paddle shifters. Unique suspension tuning. Racing tuned steering, a lowered ride height, and 19-inch Turbofan-style wheels.

The look is completed with a black-painted roof, black logos, painted door handles, a grille accent bar, and rockers. Plus, it gets fog lamps, LED taillamps, and signature accent lighting.

Currently, the regular 2025 Ford Maverick Lobo starts at $40,495. That defeats the purpose of a cheap little truck.

The more affordable option uses components from the Edge as well as the 402A equipment group instead of the 702A package.

With the 702A equipment group, you get a 400W inverter, all-weather floor mats, an acoustic windshield, ambient lightning, tie-down locking rails for the bed, a spray-in bedliner, a heated steering wheel, heated stares, a power moonroof, a power sliding rear window, a wireless charging pad, navigation, Pro Trailer backup assist, Pro Trailer hitch assist, and For Co-Pilot Assist 2.0.

It’s unclear how much the Maverick Lobo will cost with the cheaper equipment package, but stay tuned for updates.
