Sophie Nyweide passes away at 24, claims report
Sophie Nyweide, 24, the American actor known for her roles in Mammoth, An Invisible Sign, and Noah, died on April 14, 2025. Her family shared the news in an obituary.
“Sophie was a kind and trusting girl,” her family wrote. “Often this left her open to being taken advantage of by others. She wrote and drew voraciously, and much of this art depicts the depth she had, and it also represents the pain she suffered.” The obituary added, “She self-medicated to deal with all the trauma and shame she held inside, and it resulted in her death. She repeatedly said she would ‘handle it’ on her own and was compelled to reject the treatment that might possibly have saved her life.”
Nyweide began acting at a young age. She landed her first role in Bella (2006), then appeared in Law & Order, Margot at the Wedding, and New York Serenade by 2007. In Mammoth (2009), she portrayed Jackie; the film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival. She later starred in An Invisible Sign (2010) and Noah (2014), among other films.
Born on July 8, 2000, in Burlington, Vermont, she spent much of her life between Vermont and New York City. Her passion for acting emerged early, influenced by time spent in the Village Picture Shows Cinema, which her mother owned. “She seemed happiest on a movie set,” her family said.
