Oscar-nominated filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Trap) is officially collaborating with acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook, A Walk to Remember) for the upcoming supernatural thriller novel, which Shyamalan will be adapting into a movie. Random House will be publishing the novel this fall on October 7, 2025.

“Collaborating with M. Night Shyamalan has been one of the highlights of my career,” Sparks said in a statement. “We are excited to share the next stage in this process: the beautiful book cover, designed by my longtime cover designer Flamur Tonuzi.”

What is the new title for the new M. Night Shyamalan movie?

The upcoming Nicholas Sparks novel and the new M. Night Shyamalan movie will officially be titled as Remain. In addition, the official book cover has also dropped, which you can now check out below. At the moment, the movie adaptation currently has no target release date yet.

The supernatural romance movie will be directed by Shyamalan, with BAFTA winner Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton, Fair Play) expected to lead the cast. Prior to Dynover’s casting, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander was previously attached for the role. The project will be produced by Shyamalan, Marc Bienstock, and Ashwin Rajan, with Theresa Park, and Sparks serving as executive producers.

“The novel follows New York architect Tate Donovan as he arrives in Cape Cod to design his best friend’s summer home. Donovan is looking for a fresh start after his recent discharge from a psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression,” reads the book’s synopsis. “Still grappling with the loss of his beloved sister, Donovan meets Wren, a young woman who makes him challenge everything he knows about his logical and controlled world.”
