Andor Season 2’s Diego Luna Bids Heartfelt Goodbye to Star Wars Show

Diego Luna recently confirmed that Season 2 of Andor will be his final appearance as Cassian Andor. At the Los Angeles premiere, he reflected on the emotional farewell and shared behind-the-scenes moments from the final shoot. He also discussed how the role transformed his life over the past decade. His comments offer a deeper look into the character’s end and the series’ link to Rogue One.

Diego Luna says he’s ‘sad’ on saying goodbye to Cassian Andor in Season 2

Speaking to Deadline on the red carpet at El Capitan Theatre, Diego Luna said, “I said goodbye to this character when we wrapped. I had a beautiful opportunity to talk to the crew, to talk to the cast. [Creator] Tony Gilroy gave these beautiful words, we had a drink, we hugged, we cried.”

The second season of Andor was filmed in London. It will depict Cassian Andor’s final journey as he becomes a key figure in the Rebel Alliance. The story leads directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. That film marked the character’s debut and showed his eventual death. Season 1 ended with Andor joining Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård, a central figure in the early Rebellion.

Reflecting on the experience, Luna said, “It’s tough, I went through, really, a lovely and challenging journey with these people and it transformed me somehow.” He added, “It’s the dynamic, it’s my everyday life — what I have to say goodbye to.” At the event, he emphasized the emotional weight of the farewell and the depth of the relationships formed during the project.

He expressed gratitude for the decade-long journey: “It’s sad, it’s painful, but also I know how lucky I am that I had this opportunity. Many go through the journey of acting without living something like this.” He concluded, “I’m proud and honored to be part of this family.”

At the Golden Globes in January, Luna also addressed the series ending, saying, “I can tell you, I’m sad … because it’s the last season! It’s the end.”
