The Batman Part 2 to start filming in 2025 despite recent delay

Matt Reeves has confirmed that The Batman Part 2 will begin filming in 2025. While attending the Golden Globes, Reeves shared with Deadline, “I can tell you that we’re gonna be shooting this year, and that we’re excited about it.” Although no specific start date for filming was provided, Reeves’ latest comment appears to have put an end to speculations over the sequel’s eventual release date following several delays to the start of production.

The Batman Part 2 has faced multiple delays since it was first announced in April 2022. Originally scheduled for October 2026, its release was pushed to October 1, 2027, due to script issues. DC Studios co-head James Gunn noted that gaps between sequels are common, citing his Guardians of the Galaxy films as an example. As it now stands, the sequel will arrive over five years after The Batman (2022).

In his interview, Reeves hinted at narrative continuity from the first film while promising new twists. He stated, “What I’m excited about is I feel like we’re doing something that absolutely continues where the story came from, but is something that I hope people are going to be really surprised by.” (via ComicBook)

Reeves confirmed that The Batman Part 2 will bring in “new people,” hinting at upcoming casting announcements. Colin Farrell will return as the Penguin, continuing his storyline from the spinoff series The Penguin. However, production issues extended beyond script delays. Robert Pattinson is also committed to Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which begins filming in early 2025.

Warner Bros. supports Reeves’ vision under a first-look deal, and with production set for this year, more casting and plot updates are likely soon to follow.
